China is expected to establish an industrial association for exhibitors next year, according to a leading official involved in the promotion of international trade.

The move is seen as an effort to better regulate the domestic exhibition market and improve international co-operation in this field.

Wang Jinzhen, from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) made the remarks on Friday in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong Province.

The exhibition industry in China has witnessed rapid development over the past decade, notching up an annual industrial value of 8 billion yuan (US$967.3 million), according to Wang.

The sector has a massive growth potential, with an expected annual expansion rate of 20-30 per cent, Wang said.

In addition, a large number of exhibition companies have been established in China in recent years.

There are currently 2,300 registered exhibition companies in this southern metropolis, Wang said.

However, the industrial value of China's exhibition sector accounts for a meagre share of the international market, which annually reaches US$300 billion, according to Wang.

Moreover, Wang said China's exhibition market should be better regulated as the development of this industry has encountered a number of obstacles, such as disordered competition and unprofessional attitudes.

As a result, an industrial alliance of exhibitors should be established to improve market regulation, according to Wang.

The CCPIT announced on Friday that the First China Expo Forum for International Co-operation (CEFCO) will be held in Beijing from January 11-13 next year.

The forum will offer an opportunity for exchanges and co-operation between the Chinese and international exhibition industries.

The forum is expected to bring together about 23 exhibition companies from home and abroad.

In addition, the annual report of China's exhibition industry will be issued during the CEFCO.

The report will explain China's policies towards the exhibition industry, analyzing its development over the previous years, as well as predicting its future development, Wang said.
