Expert testimony said Liu Hongwen, a former teacher at Guangyi Township Central Elementary School on trial for attacking students and teachers in central-south China's Hunan province on Sept. 30, has been identified as a schizophrenic.

Liu, who was declared not guilty by reason of insanity, has been hospitalized for treatment, said Zhang Jianhua, director of the Linwu County Public Security Bureau, in an interview with Xinhua on Wednesday.

Liu was on trial for slaying four students, wounding nine other students and three teachers and kidnapping 65 students at her school.

Police investigation shows that Liu had a history of mental disease.

Guangyi Township Central Elementary School has been completely renovated to help students forget the scenes of assaults and resumed classes in mid October.
