The 21-year-old actress was arrested Saturday after police found a bag of the party drug ketamine in her car when she was stopped, several newspapers reported.

Police spokesman Chris Cheung said officers arrested a 21-year-old woman surnamed Ting for possession of 0.8 gram of ketamine worth about 100 Hong Kong dollars (US$13; euro 10). Newspapers reported that Ying's real name is Ting Man. She took the stage name Cherrie Ying Choi-yi.

Ting was later released on HK$1,000 (US$128; euro 100) bail, Cheung said.

After her release, Ying told Apple Daily the case was being handled by her lawyer and declined further comment.

Calls to Ying's company, China Star Entertainment Group, went unanswered early Sunday.

Taiwan-born Ying grew up in New York and began her acting career in Hong Kong three years ago. She has starred in a dozen Hong Kong movies, including "My Left Eye Sees Ghosts" and "Why Me, Sweetie?"
