Fur flourishes
Designers, manufacturers and retailers have embraced fur in all its forms this season, offering more designs and styles than one could have imagined. The North American Fur Association (NAFA) showcased the latest trends in fur fashion at the City Plaza Shopping Center last Saturday. Funky furs were all the rage, with modern cuts and bold colors such as hot pink, purple and red. Exciting colors, laser cuts and knitting techniques all added freshness to the season's offerings. Some "little fur pieces" - such as shrugs, scarves and petite boleros -- make a strong fashion statement and have drawn great applause on the catwalks of Europe and North America. Roberto Cavalli, Gianfranco Ferre, and Jean Paul Gaultier all featured fur in their fall/winter collections. And the look isn't just for ladies, either. This collection includes a mink bomber jacket and inserts of leather for men. NAFA is the third-largest fur auction house in the world after Copenhagen Fur Center and Finnish Fur Sales. In 2003, NAFA handled about 2.5 million North American ranch mink skins, close to one million European mink and almost two million wild fur pelts from more than 14 different varieties. |
