Yao Ming looks a little bit odd in a gigantic police uniform. Commuters in Shanghai get a real surprise one day when they see the 7'6'' Houston Rocket center standing at a crossing, guiding traffic and escorting school children on the crosswalk.

In a light-hearted short TV play to promote the overall image of Shanghai, Yao acts as skillful as in the court to play multiple roles. He acts as a traffic policeman, a gardener, a taxi driver, a redcap, a journalist, a tourist, and finally a musician.

"I feel quite nervous when the traffic policeman part is shot," Yao recalls. "There are many kids around and I really have to take care of their safety."

After playing the role of a reporter, he says he now has a better understanding about the "hardship" of journalists. "But when it comes to the formal (basketball) games in the court, I still think it'll be hard for me to remember the hardship of all reporters," Yao adds with a shrewd smile.

The promotion play will be screening in Shanghai's landmarks and public areas such as the Bund, Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Exhibition Center.

"I'm very glad to have a chance to help promote the image of Shanghai to the world," Yao says.
