Fifty-two new couples celebrated their weddings together October 5, sharing with thousands of people their happiness in the Rose Wedding, an annual group-marriage ceremony in Shanghai.

Four brides were provided wedding clothes worth more than 10,000 yuan (US$1,205) each by the event's organizing committee, with one of them dressed in a 100,000-yuan Japanese dress made totally by hand.

"They were selected because their love stories were the most touching," said Chen Hua, an official with the committee. "Different from most others who fall in love and then get married, they've experienced many twists and turns before finally joining hands."

After vowing to promise their loyalty to marriage, the couples joined a public parade on Huaihai Road, shaking hands with passers-by while riding in the Lioncel open cars.
Their group wedding feast was held on Binjiang Boulevard last night, with more than 1,000 guests attending to give their blessings.

As a traditional part of the Shanghai Tourism Festival, the Rose Wedding held by the Luwan District Tourism Bureau annually in October has witnessed the joining of more than 2,000 couples.

"Every moment today is worth remembering for the rest of our lives," said You Min, who married Yu Tao, a Shanghai resident. "All the guests, known and unknown, are also memorable, because they've brought me such a grand wedding and much happiness."
