Bush spins the disaster
raymondusa  Updated: 2004-10-02 09:50

Presidential Slaughter.........it's going to be funny to see how the Republicans spin this disaster!

Let me offer a balancing point of view to counter all these Republican talking heads!!!!

Looking at the major newspapers in America: When asked who won the debate, it wasn't even close. The highest number I saw was 90% Kerry, and the lowest was 43% Kerry. Bush got whacked. Only blind Republicans out of touch with reality felt it was a draw. What a dishonest joke!!

After watching the entire debate, I came away with two emotions. I felt embarrassed that Bush is my President. He was inarticulate, poor body language, too much facial contortions, sounded unprepared with too many pregnant pauses like he was searching for the right Republician talking points, had this blank, deer in the headlights look at times, overly repetitive like a one trick pony replaying the same rehearsed sound bites, and most importantly, had no answers for some pretty important issues. ie: Not finishing the job and losing Bin Laden in Tora Bora. Trying to imply a nexus between Iraq and 9/11, which Kerry quickly rejected and corrected Bush as it wasn't Saddam who attacked us on 9/11, but Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, which Bush had to sheepishly agree and acknowledge. To me, that was the defining moment of the entire debate.

The second emotion I felt was pity, pity for Bush, cause this was not a debate, but a Presidential Slaughter. He was so out of his league that it was no longer funny. Without Rove, without his minions, without the talking heads, without his surrogates to do the talking for him, Bush came across like a country bumpkin when he had to speak for himself. This was truly sad because his poor showing wasn't only in front of an American audience, but in front of major world media.

Regarding Republican talking points about Kerry. When Kerry said, "I voted for the 87B before I voted against it." Republican don't want to put it in context or tell the truth about this vote so let me give it to you.

Prior to the war, Dumbsfeld and Wolfy implied that Iraqi Oil would be paying for the reconstruction of Iraq and American taxpayers need not worry. When this 87B supplemental came to a vote, Kerry already knew it was going to pass overwhelming so our troops would get the money for what they need. The problem was the Republicans earmarked 20B for reconstruction and put that in this supplement and try to pork barrel it. There was also debate about whether the 20B was going to be a loan or not. Kerry voted no as a protect vote because he knew his vote would not change the outcome, and that the troops would still get the help. But the spinmachine try to make it sound like a flipflop, when Kerry was trying to make a point about the taxpayers being stuck with the reconstruction bill when the administration minions assured otherwise.

Bush is a flipflopper. One day he is against establishing a Dept. of Homeland Security, against establishing a 9/11 commission to investigate 9/11, against Condi Rice testifying, and claimed the reason we went to war in Iraq was because they represent an imminent threat to our security, etc. Those positions changed when the circumstances changed. I understand that since it's hardly damning to change one's mine when presented with new information and ideas. Yet, how many Republicans have the integrity to acknowledge that Bush's flipflops were more damning and far reaching than anything Kerry did. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Some said they preferred a real debate, where both candidates could ask each other questions, point, counterpoint style, like in real debates. I would have loved a real debate. Even in this tightly controlled environment, Bush was slaughter as the major polls indicated. Can you imagine if it was a real debate, there would be nothing left of Bush after Kerry finished him. Talk about shooting fish in a barrel.......this was too damn easy.
