(China Daily)
Updated: 2004-10-01 11:13

The State Environmental Protection Administration yesterday issued a circular calling for a strengthening of pollution controls along the Yellow River to ensure that qualified water can flow to North China's Tianjin Municipality.

To ease the serious thirst in Tianjin, the State Council has approved an emergency response plan, according to which Yellow River water will be introduced to Tianjin from October 10. The whole process will last for 110 days. The same practice was carried out last year.

Monitoring of water quality will be reinforced, control over polluting enterprises will be tightened, and information will be exchanged smoothly among departments involved, according to the circular.
