China, Brunei to cooperate more in oil exploitation

China will encourage domestic companies to take an active part in oil and gas exploitation in resource-rich Brunei, China's top legislator said in Beijing Wednesday.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said China expects to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment with Brunei -- especially in the field of oil and gas exploitation and infrastructure construction -- while meeting with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

Wu also said China welcomes investors from Brunei to expand their business in China.

Brunei pays great attention to the growth of trade and economic ties with China and to the advancement of the overall friendship between the two countries, Hassanal said.
