Updated: 2004-09-10 08:56

UnionPay debit card holders can now use the cards in Macao after China UnionPay Co. Ltd. opened POS and ATM access in the special administrative region Wednesday.

UnionPay debit card holders can use it in more than 200 shopping malls and withdraw Macao dollars from 125 automated teller machines (ATMs) authorized by UnionPay.

Cardholders do not have to pay a commission for using UnionPay cards at shopping malls, but have to pay a commission for withdrawing cash from ATMs. The rate of commission is decided by the banks.

Cardholders can withdraw up to 4,800 Macao dollars (US$610) a day from ATMs.
