Catherine Zeta-Jones has knocked Victoria Beckham off the top of the league of the well-dressed.

"It's lovely to see Catherine Zeta-Jones at the top of the best-dressed list this year," said Maire Fahey, editor of Prima magazine, which conducted the poll.

"No matter where she goes, or what she is doing, she always looks just fantastic. She is also a great role model, sticking to sensible eating plans and exercise to lose her baby weight."

Mrs Beckham has plummeted in the style stakes and is now considered among the world's worst-dressed women celebrities, according to the survey.

For the past two years she has topped the best-dressed list voted by magazine readers, but this year came second only to Jordan as the world's worst-dressed celebrity.

Her uniform of micro-minis, high heels and tight tops got the thumbs down from British women.

Big Brother presenter Davina McCall was second in the fashion stakes. Dame Judi Dench was third, striking a blow for stylish older women.

Actress Emma Thompson was fourth, thanks to her re-invention this year as a glamorous diva. Cat Deeley was fifth.

Joining Jordan and Posh in the worst-dressed list were Britney Spears, last year's winner Christina Aguilera and Cherie Blair.

Ms Fahey said, "Jordan and Victoria both have quite extreme style, which may alienate some women.

"Posh has also been dressing down a lot more lately and her 'street' style may have earned her the place on the worst-dressed list."
