The future of the USA?
machjo  Updated: 2004-08-26 09:42

The second, and fastest growing (and not only from immigration, though that too), language in the USA is Spanish. Chinese is its third language. And Islam is the fastest growing religion in the nation, numerically at least, though not by percentage growth (and not only due to immigration, but conversion as well). the native English -speaking population tends to have some the lowest birth rates as well, to top it all off.

In Canada, just north of the border, Chinese is its third language also, after French. Islam is the fastest-growing religion in Canada also, numerically speaking (though percentagewise no, and the growth is not only due to immigration, just like the US). Canada's French-speaking population tends to have among the smallest birth-rates in the nation, with the native-English speakers and Chinese not far behind.

Canada's population is also starting to rely on immigration to maintain its population (though the USA avoids that problem with illegal immigration from Mexico and the higher birth-rates of the hispanic population, which of course brings its own challenges).

What do you think the future face of US, or perhaps even North American, culture will look like in twenty years, and how do you think that might affect both its internal and external politics?

Oh, and by the way, I'm by no means zenophobic, and frankly don't care nor fear if north American culture does change considerably (who knows, it might even be a good thing). I'm curious what your views on it are.
