Pharmaceutical industry in Lianyungang shines

Eight projects including six in new pharmaceutical industry, located in Lianyungang Economic and Technological Development Zone, East China's Jiangsu Province, are recently listed in the State's Torch Program, Spark Program, National Science and Technology Achievements Spreading Program.

The news was disclosed at the 2004 State Programs for the Development of Science and Technology by the State Council's Ministry of Science and Technology.

Lianyungang Economic & Technological Development Zone is one of the 14 earliest national-level economic and technological development zones. New Pharmaceutical Base of the national Torch Program is located in the centre area of the zone. Seven backbone enterprises have been established in this base, four of which are national level key high and new technological company. They have set up several joint laboratories with the Bio-Technological Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Medical Science, China Medical University and Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Hospital to conduct research and development (R&D).

Last year 137 million yuan (US$16.6 million) were invested in R&D, accounting for 5.3 percent of the sales revenue.

Lianyungang City is the east bridgehead of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge. It has been granted ISO14001 ecological environmental certification. With advantages of geographic location, port, railway, relative cheap labor and business cost, the city has become the hot spot of international investment.
