Criminal gang sentenced to death, imprisonment in Guangxi

A local court in Beihai city, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China, sentenced 18 members of a criminal gang Thursday to punishments from death to imprisonment.

Charged with brigandage and injury in 28 offenses from 1999 to 2001, four of the gang, Xu Yuanchun, Xu Dong, Xu Zhong and Xu Debao, received death penalties and another was sentenced to death with two years' suspension.

The gang also caused one death when they committed an offense in 2000.

Twelve other members were sentenced to imprisonment above 10 years.

The members of the gang, 17 of whom were from one family clan in Langbo village of Hepu county, are aged between 19 and 29.
