Ghana will host the 2008 African Nations Cup after beating Libya in a vote by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday.

Ghana won nine votes to Libya's three among executive committee members of the continent's ruling body in Cairo, CAF said on its website. Senegal's Mawade Wade, also part of the 13-member committee, was absent for the vote.

Ghana, who hosted the tournament in 1963, 1978 and co-hosted it with Nigeria in 2000, will use four venues in 2008 - Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale.

Kofi Amoah, the Ghana bid committee chairman said: 'I feel excited, I feel we have worked very hard to win this bid. The 2008 tournament will be for the whole of African continent.'

This year's Cup was won by host nation Tunisia. Egypt will be the venue for the 2006 finals.
