Shanghai unveiled its first training center for World Expo staff yesterday as
the city gears up for the Expo in 2010.
The International Training Center is operated by Shanghai Foreign Service Co
Ltd, a subsidiary of Shanghai World Expo (Group) Co Ltd and China's biggest
human resources consulting company serving foreign-invested companies.
The 2,200-square-meter training center is expected to offer courses in
logistics, customer service, project management, public relations, exhibition
operation and human resources, areas where specialized talents are needed for
the World Expo, said officials with Shanghai Foreign Service Co Ltd.
"The center will train more than 300,000 management-level professionals for
the Expo and will start with white collar workers in Shanghai's foreign-invested
companies," said Chen Xianjin, president of Shanghai World Expo (Group) Co Ltd.
He said many of the courses involve cooperation with overseas training
institutions or publishers of training manuals in the US, Canada, Australia and
Europe.
The urgently needed talents for Expo include advertising, communications,
legal service, logistics, engineering, fund raising, financial analysis and
trade, according to a survey by Shanghai Foreign Service.
In the meantime, Shanghai World Expo (Group) Co Ltd is preparing to establish
World Expo Training Center with a registered capital of 10 million yuan (US$1.2
million) as early as next month, according to Gu Jiadong, general manager with
Shanghai Foreign Service Co Ltd.
Shanghai Foreign Service will hold 50 percent, with the rest held by related
city governments, he said.
