A landslide accident occurred Friday afternoon in Renshou County of Meishan City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, leaving three people dead and another one injured, local sources said Saturday.

Rocks and mud of a mountain at Zhangjia District of Renshou County rushed down at about 4:00 p.m. Friday, when four quarrymen, Jiang Huiguang, Huang Jianjun, Lei Huashan and Li Maoguang, were working at the side of the mountain. The first three were buried by the rocks and mud and died immediately, and Li Maoguang had his right leg broken by a rock. The wounded was rescued in time.

Preliminary analysis by the local security supervisory authority show that the landslide was caused by continuous rainfalls.

It was reported that at around 12:00 Thursday noon, another quarry at Shuangpu Township of Renshou County, was also hit by a landslide, which killed a farm named Li Wenqing immediately.

The municipal government of Meishan is making efforts to prevent more fatal landslide accidents.
