The expected double blessing will make the 36-year-old "Pretty Woman" actress, one of the biggest female stars in Hollywood, and her cameraman husband Danny Moder parents for the first time, Marcy Engelman said.

The announcement of Roberts' impending motherhood came following media speculation after she was photographed recently on an Italian beach showing a telling bump.

Engelman told People magazine that twins run in Roberts' family -- her great grandmother and a set of cousins were twins.

Star magazine, citing unidentified sources, said the twins were a boy and a girl, but Engelman declined to offer any further details.

Roberts, who won the best actress Oscar for her role as a crusading US lawyer in the 2000 film "Erin Brockovich," and Moder have reportedly been trying for some time to start a family.

The movie star and Moder, 35, married at a surprise ceremony at their hideaway home in the western US state of New Mexico in July 2002.

The pair invited hundreds of close friends, including top Hollywood royalty, to a weekend barbecue and then announced that they were really there to witness a wedding.

Moder was married to another woman when he met Roberts while shooting the film "The Mexican" and wed Roberts shortly after his divorce.

Roberts was previously married to singer Lyle Lovett, with whom she walked down the aisle in 1993. That union lasted only 21 months.

Roberts shot to worldwide fame after playing a loveable prostitute in 1990's "Pretty Woman," a role for which she was nominated for a best actress Academy Award, and then took on a role in 1989's "Steel Magnolias," which won her a best supporting actress nod.

The actress, known for her luminous smile, also starred in such hits as the romantic comedy "Notting Hill" opposite Hugh Grant and appeared in last year's 1950s period drama "Mona Lisa Smile."

She is due to begin shooting in Italy later this month on "Ocean's 12," the sequel to 2000's "Ocean's 11," with returning costars George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.
