World-famous express delivery and logistic giant DHL announced in Shanghai to
start their express service in China on Monday, the first foreign express
company to open this business in China.
"To provide home express service in China is a milestone in DHL 's
development in China, which marks a large step in DHL's cooperation with China
National Foreign Trade Transportation Group (Sinotrans)," said Dr. Klaus
Zumwinkel, chairman of Deutsche Post World Net.
With its headquarters located in Brussels, Belgium, DHL takes Asia Pacific
region especially China as its development emphasis.
According to Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, from 2004 to 2008, DHL plans to invest over
215 million US dollars in China to develop its domestic express service and
improve its infrastructures in China, including expanding four port operation
centers, establishing 14 new branches, setting up three express logistic centers
and 16 strategic spare parts centers.
Moreover, DHL Denzas Air & Ocean will establish two logistics centers in
Pudong District and Jiuting Town of Songjiang District respectively in
southeastern Shanghai Municipality. And its logistic service in Shanghai Pudong

sees DHL expands with an annual rate from 35 to 45 percent in recent years.
"China expects to be the largest market of DHL in Asia-Pacific region in the
coming years," said Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel.
The cooperation between DHL and Sinotrans began in 1986 when the two
established DHL-Sinotrans, the first joint venture in express industry in China.
So far, the company has secured the leadership position in the China air express
industry by covering 318 cities in China and holding 40 percent of the national
market share. And DHL Denzas has become the leading one in China's international
air freight market.
