Birds of a feather
 Birds of a feather是一个非常古老的谚语,最早出现在《圣经》中,它的完整表达形式是birds of a feather flock together,即“物以类聚,人以群分”,转义为“同类的人,一丘之貉”。Of a feather本身就是一个古老的短语,意思是of a kind / of the same species,因为在区分不同种类的鸟类时,羽毛的种类和颜色是最明显的标志。

尽管,birds of a feather有时也含有褒义,例如:"You and I are birds of a feather, Clyde. We both like ketchup on our waffles." 这个短语最常用的意思还是people of the same kind (often bad) ,即“一丘之貉,臭味相投”。

例如:

I'm not surprised those two are such friends; they're birds of a feather!
那两个家伙交情这么好我并不感到奇怪,他们是臭味相投的一对!

在《鲁迅全集》中有这样一句:“增加混乱的倒是有些悲观论者……将一切作者诋为‘一丘之貉’”。英译为In fact it is these pessimists who increase the chaos by.......considering all writers birds of a feather.
