The 54th Miss World Competition will be held in Sanya City of China's southernmost province of Hainan this year, the competition's organizing agency announced in Sanyan Sunday.

Sanya was the venue for the 53rd Miss World Competition. Julia Morley, executive chairperson of the competition's organizing agency, said she was satisfied with the previous contest.

It is reported Sanya is the second city in the world, after Sun City in South Africa, to hold two consecutive Miss World competitions.

A press officer of Sanya City said the local government began negotiating with the competition's organizing committee on hosting the 54th Miss World Competition soon after the 53rd one.

The next competition is scheduled for December 4 this year.

The Miss World Competition was launched in 1951 in London as part of the New Year celebrations in Britain with the sponsorship of Eric Morley, who died in 2000. Morley's widow, Julia, succeeded him and is now executive chairperson of the organizing agency.

The competition works for the purpose of promoting world peace, setting an exemplary image for women and helping children in starvation. The contestants should be beautiful, talented and with a loving heart.
