China-made BMW 318i debuts

The China-made BMW 318I made its debut on Saturday, announced the producer BMW Brilliance in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai on Saturday.

The car is sold at 398,000 yuan (48,536 US dollars) nationwide,according to dealers.

BMW Brilliance is a joint venture of BMW and Brilliance China Automotive set up in May 2003. Its production capability will reach 30,000 this year and its total investment will top 4.5 billion yuan (549 million US dollars) by 2005, according to the company.

Last year, BMW sold 18,700 cars on the Chinese mainland, three times more than the previous year, according to China Economic Information Network.
