That's all she wrote.

That's all she wrote.看上去是一句及其平常的句子，但它却是一个固定短语，意思是That's all there is.或That's the end of it.

关于它的来源，比较成形的理论是：这个短语最初出现在第二次世界大战期间，美国士兵在外征战，他们只能通过信件和家乡的亲友联络，他们和女朋友之间也只能通过写信来保持联系。其中有一种信被称为Dear John Letters，实际上就是绝交信。这类信件在战争中非常常见，据说有一位美国大兵（他可能压根就不叫John）收到了一封来信，信中除了称呼Dear John之外，只有一句话：It's over，剩下的是一片空白，这封信的含义直接明了。当其他士兵问起信中还有什么内容时，他说That's all she wrote. 于是，这句原本常见的句子逐渐变成了一个短语，有了固定的含义，也就是：“只有这些”“这就是结局”。
