New Concept Hotpot By R.van den Broek (City Weekend) Updated: 2004-04-14 10:08
High above Tian Mu Xi Lu, Tian Yuan Guo is a hotpot
offering a personal approach to good food. It is very light and spaciously well
designed.
Individual hotpots are provided to each diner, insuring you eat
what you throw in. A perfect starter is the delicious hand shredded mixed
vegetables Y18, which sets the appetite up for the main dish. Both the thinly
sliced limestone beef Y35 and the sliced ox tongue Y28 is fresh enough, and
unique fish and shrimp pastes boil into flavored balls Y38. Handmade noodles Y5
or the potato starch noodles Y8 combine well with a wide sellection of fresh
vegetables.
A large bottle of Qingdao at RMB10 is reasonable, and
the service was excellent.
Tian Yuan Guo appeals to very specific tastes
- if you enjoy the communal aspect of hotpot, being able to dart in and take
from a mix of several things being cooked at once, then you may find the
individual pots too time consuming. But if you don't mind practicing a bit of
patience while waiting for you pot of veggies and meat to boil, this is the spot
for you.
