Deportivo La Coruna caused another major Champions League upset by dumping holders AC Milan out of the competition at the quarter-final stage.

An incredible 4-0 second leg victory at the Riazor Stadium, sent the hosts into the semi-final thanks to a 5-4 aggregate triumph.

Walter Pandiani's fifth minute strike, following lax marking, looked to have set up an absorbing 90 minutes but Milan's generous defending allowed Deportivo a 3-0 lead by half-time.

The unmarked Juan Carlos Valeron was the next to benefit after he headed home from close range after Dida completely missed Alberto Luque's left-flank cross.

Luque made it three when he took advantage of hesitation in the Milan defence and chested the ball forward past Cafu before smashing an unstoppable shot into Dida's net.

The impressive Luque's goal made the scores 4-4 on aggregate but the hosts away goal in the San Siro meant Deportivo were going through when the half-time whistle was blown.

Milan struggled to cope with Deportivos's work rate during the second half and veteran Fran, on as a substitute, made the most of Gattuso's dithering in defence by slamming home the fourth with the help of a deflection.

Filippo Inzaghi had a late chance to take the tie to extra time but his scuffed shot never troubled Jose Molina and Deportivo were able to celebrate one of the greatest comebacks in European history.

Afterwards Jorge Andrade described Deportivo La Coruna as "magnificent".

Utility man Andrade was outstanding, and he was in good company in the Depor team as each player shone at the Riazor.

Andrade told Sky Sports 2: "We tried to win the game - just to win - but then we scored the goals. I think we deserved this, because we played magnificently.

"It's magnificent.

"It's the first time we've been here, so we are going to celebrate because we've done very well.

"It's the first time we've gone through like this. We played very well against the champions of last year."
