China nip South Korea in table tennis rematch

A young and hungry Chinese team led by Wang Hao beat South Korea 3-1 in China vs South Korea table tennis event Sunday in Tianjin, north China.

In a replay of a world team championship match early this monthwhen China emerged 3-0 winners, world third-ranked Wang Hao grabbed two matches as chopper-cum-attacker Joo Se Hyuk won South Korea's sole point from Chinese Qiu Yike.

Hao Shuai put the hosts ahead as he beat Ryu Seung Min 11-8, 11-4, 15-17, 11-7 in the first rubber and Wang Hao, 2003 ITTF Pro Tour Finals winner, downed South Korean veteran Oh Sang Eun 7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10 in the second.

South Korea pulled one point back as world championship runner-up Joo Se Hyuk mixed a consistent defensive play with lightning forehand attacks to beat Qiu 11-9, 11-5, 11-9.

Wang wrapped up China's victory by beating the 9th-ranked Ryu 11-13, 11-9, 13-11, 7-11, 11-2.

In Saturday's singles event, Chinese reigning Olympic champion Kong Linghui beat Hao Shuai 4-2 in the final.
