The result of the analysis on the cross-strait trade situation last year released by "World Trade Bureau of Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs" showed that trade volume between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan last year totaled USD46.3b. This proved that the Chinese mainland has come to notch up to the biggest trade partner of Taiwan instead of the third as in the previous year, followed by Japan with US$44.5 billion and the US, US$42.7 billion.

For the twelve month from January to December last year, exports from Taiwan to the Chinese mainland valued at about US$35.3 billion, up 20 percent from the previous year and accounting for 24.5 percent of Taiwan's gross exports. Taiwan received an import of about US$10.9 billion from the Chinese mainland, an increase of 37.9 percent from the previous year, making up 8.6 percent of Taiwan's gross imports. The total trade volume cross the strait came to USD 46.3b. Taiwan enjoyed a trade surplus of US$24.3 billion, a rise of 13.4 percent over the previous year.
