Right perspective of bird flu
In my opinion, it is unnecessary for us to be so depressed and unilateral. In fact, it is only coincident that both SARS and the bird flu broke out successively in Asia in such short time. Looking back to the history of some kinds of diseases that human beings infected with, we can see that these diseases are originated from different regions in the world. For instance, plague was originated in Egypt or Ethiopia. Bovine spongiform enceohalopathy (BSE) is originated in UK. Anthracnose was found in some agricultural and pasturing areas and the first case of AIDS was found in the US. Even the bird flu was not originated in Asia in the first place. It was found as early as in the 1870s in Italy whereas America suffered a severe loss in economy due to the wide spread of the bird flu once in the past century. What is so special about the break out of the disease this time is that human beings have been infected. So, rather than complain about the nightmare, we should have a self-questioning that why are infectious diseases more likely to break out today than before? Why are humans infected inevitably? Some reasons may be as follows. Firstly, as the development of the industrial civilization, poultries are no longer raised by individual households. Instead, they are enclosed in henneries and duckeries so that thay can produce more food people needed. The poultries are so congregated that infectious diseases can easily be spread. Secondly, some of the feedstuff including incretion, pesticides and antibiotic began to be used and has caused the aberrance of genes of some poultries which are likely to cause the bird flu. Thirdly, it seems that human beings have got too much touch with all kinds of animals, which has increased the probability of the infection of diseases. Besides, Asia is one of the cradle lands of human civilizations, especially
those Campagnas and places near the sea. The agriculture here is more developed
and the climate is more temperate. Large amount of poultries raised and the mild
climate are also the main causes
