Cease-fire

6月1日午夜，伊斯兰圣战组织在以色列首都特拉维夫制造"自杀性爆炸"（a suicide bombing）事件后，阿拉法特命令所有巴当局控制下的安全部队立即停火。 "停火" 英文里叫作 "cease fire"，当我们把这个动词短语拼在一起就成了一个名词 "cease-fire"，停火，停火协议(an agreement to stop fighting for a certain period, esp. so that a more lasting peace agreement can be established)，从英文解释我们可以看出， "cease-fire"通常指为实现和平而达成的长期的停火协议。当然我们也可以用 "armistice" 和"truce"来表达停火，停火协议的意思，但这两个单词通常指短期的、暂时性的停火。同"停火"相反， "开火"我们说 "open fire"，"向…开火"我们说 "open fire at(on) …"。 "Play with fire"则是"玩火，冒很大风险"的意思。
