Gordian knot

这是个源出于古希腊传说的成语，Gordian是Gordius的形容词，Gordius是公元前四世纪小亚细亚地区的一个国王，他把一辆牛车的车辕和车轭用一根绳子系了起来，打了一个找不到结头的死结，声称谁能打开这个难解的Gordian knot谁就可以称王亚洲。这个结一直没有人解开。
到了公元前三世纪，亚历山大大帝Alexander拔开身上的佩剑，一下子就把这个死结斩开了。
此后Gordian knot便用来指“难以解决的问题”，而cut the Gordian knot便指干脆利落地解决复杂的问题：
The deceased old man did not leave a will and the distribution of his property was a Gordian knot.
故世的老人没有留下遗嘱，他的财产分配是一个大难题。
The new chief found it so hard to cooperate with his staff members that he decided to cut the Gordian knot by replacing them all.
新来的头头发觉很难和他的下属合作，他决定快刀斩乱麻把他们统统换了。
