A tribesman mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records
for his lengthy locks has died, one year after the death of
his brother who held the world's record for the longest hair,
neighbors said Tuesday.
Yee Sateow, 82, whose hair was measured at 16 feet (4.8 meters),
died Monday after two days of diarrhea from food poisoning,
said Udom Pakdee, a grocery shop owner who lived next door
in his remote mountain village.
Yee gained fame in 1997 after he was mentioned alongside
his brother, Hoo, whose 16 feet 11 inches (5.15 meter) of
hair was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the
longest in the world.
Hoo, the village medicine man, died in August 2001 at the
age of 90.
The Guinness Web site did not say if Yee had the second longest
hair in the world when Hoo was alive, but only notes that
the elder brother beat his sibling "by a whisker."
Hoo and Yee were ethnic Hmong tribesmen who lived in the
village of Muang Nga in Chiang Mai province, about (680 kilometer
(420 miles) north of Bangkok.
