He may not play football or even have heard of the soccer club, but Atletico Madrid signed up actor Harrison Ford as their latest recruit on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old American was presented with a first team shirt at a ceremony in Madrid as part of the club's new sponsorship deal with Colombia Tristar Pictures.

Ford's latest "Hollywood Homicide" will be one of a series of films to be advertised on the front of the team's shirts this season.

But the star of the Indiana Jones adventures said he did not count himself as a sports fan.

"I think I must be missing the sporting gene," said Ford. "But in this case I'm very happy that a team of the stature of Atletico Madrid is going to help promote my new film."

Atletico play their first match of the season away to Sevilla on Sunday.
