AC Milan's Ukrainian forward Andriy Shevchenko is a doubt for his country's 2002 World Cup play-off qualifiers with Germany after breaking his nose during the 0-0 draw with Bologna at the San Siro.

But after the player underwent an operation Sunday night in a Milan hospital the Italian first division club said that the player still had a chance of playing against Germany although he will not return to club action until November 18 when Milan host Piacenza at the San Siro.

"The prognosis is (Shevchenko will not play) for seven to 10 days," said the club on its official website after the operation.

That would mean the player would be fit for the two-legged playoff on November 10 and November 14 with Germany.

Shevchenko was injured in the second half when he collided with Bologna's Alessandro Gamberini.
