Anthony Hopkins says he's just a stupid actor "I look at my life with a sense of great wonder because where I came from and my internal landscape when I was a child was just so bad. I had no future at all," Hopkins said at a news conference promoting his film "Hearts in Atlantis." The film made its North American debut on Friday at the 26th Toronto International Film Festival. "I remember meeting Richard Burton, who is from my hometown, and I remember asking him to sign an autograph for me. I remember thinking on that day, when I went back to my father's house, I wanted to be just like that. I wanted to get away from my own limitations," he added. Hopkins has gone on to play many roles, but perhaps is best known as the creepy, flesh-eating Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs," for which he won an Oscar. He reprised the role in the sequel, "Hannibal." But, he says the role is "just a job." "I learn my lines, show up ... it's nothing to be taken seriously, or have any significance. I'm just a stupid actor," he said. "Hearts in Atlantis" is based on a Stephen King tale of the same name, which features Bobby (Anton Yelchin), an 11-year-old neglected by his single mother (Hope Davis) who befriends Ted (Hopkins), a mysterious tenant in the apartment upstairs. Bobby soon discovers Ted has ESP-like powers and thinks he is being pursued. "Hearts in Atlantis" opens in North America on September 28.
