Persson wins clash of former World Champs

Sweden's 1991 world champion Jorgen Persson beat French 1993 world titlist Jean-Philippe Gatien in five sets at the World Table Tennis Championships in Japan's Osaka on Thursday.
Persson played an all-around game to shut out the fast-attacking Frenchman 21-12, 21-17, 19-21, 16-21, 21-19.
Persson will meet Chinese world number one Wang Liqin in the fourth round.
Wang outlasted Persson in the 1997 world championships.
