Haan: Tired Chinese squad not to expect too much
( 2003-12-03 09:24) (Xinhua)

China won't be obsessed with the idea of winning but take the four-team international friendly as atrial for the lineup, said the Chinese team coach Arie Haan on Tuesday.

a training session in the Workers' Stadium in Beijing.

Haan said that he hoped the tournament would help him finalize his lineup and winning the title was put to the second place as the players had no time to have a rest after the season.

"All of the players were called into the national team right after they finished the league competition, and they felt tired following a long season," said the Dutch on the day when the Chinese squad left for Japan for the East Asian four-team event.

Most of the national players arrived in Beijing Monday for the call-up after the last round of the first division league ended onSunday.

"You can't expect too much faced with two of the best teams in Asia," said the 55-year-old coach. China will take on Asian champions Japan on Thursday and South Korea, the fourth finishers in the 2002 World Cup, Sunday before facing off against Hong Kong of China next Wednesday in the round-robin tournament.

"I'd rather take the event as an opportunity to finalize my lineup," said Haan, who took reign of the Chinese team in Decemberlast year.

"And it will be great experience for my players playing Japan and South Korea," he added.

China is building up for the Asian Championship which is to be held in Chongqing, China between late July and early August next year.
