( 2003-11-28 16:22) (Xinhua)

Chinese basketball star Yao Ming, the first top-picked foreigner in NBA history, was awarded the title of China's top ten youngsters of 2003, said local reports on Friday.

The Houston Rocket center, along with China's first astronaut Yang Liwei and other eight outstanding young people representing various fields of media, medicine, science, and business, was voted in by a 65-man special committee from 47 candidates recommended across the country, according to Friday's China Youth Daily.

Jointly organized by the All-China Youth Federation, the China Youth Development Foundation and ten Beijing-based media organizations, the 14th appraisal of this kind in China will hold an awarding ceremony in December.
