Soldiers knock out, save suicidal man ( 2003-11-05 17:02) (China Daily)
A man intent on comitting suicide was knocked unconscious by an armed soldier so he could be dragged from the rails beneath a stationary train, Shanghai Evening Post reports. Zhou Zhiguang and Wang Qing, two armed soldiers patrolling Shanghai Railway Station, spotted a man climbing under a train shortly due to set off on Monday afternoon. First, they jumped off the platform and tried to pull the man out. But he held on to the train so tightly that Zhou eventually asked Wang to distract the man while he delivered a dizzying blow to his neck. The train departed as soon as they pulled the man from the rails. The man, an Anhui Province native, had been robbed of all his money and belongings when he arrived at the station several days before, leaving him despondent and, eventually, suicidal. |
