Bank staffer clears out account ( 2003-10-29 17:11) (China Daily)
A bank employee who stole more than 900,000 yuan (US$108,740) from a customer's savings account is now in police custody, Beijing Youth Daily reports. Qiao Libo took advantage of his position and copied a deposit book belonging to Chen, a customer. He then succeeded in guessing the man's PIN by entering Chen's birthdate at an ATM. After initially withdrawing 350,000 yuan (US$42,290), Qiao put 10,000 yuan (US$1,200) back into Chen's account to try to cover up his crime. But the following month, he withdrew all 900,000 yuan left in the account, using it to buy a car, a house, a notebook computer and a digital camera. Chen discovered the missing funds when he went to the bank to withdraw some money. |
