Boao Forum for Asia more influential
( 2003-10-29 09:16) (Xinhua)

The three-year-old Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), as the only non-official international organization in Asia, serves as a unique platform for dialogue about Asian issues and has become more influential in the world.

The second annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia will be held at Boao, a small town of China's southest Hainan Province, from Nov. 2 to 3.

So far about 1,000 delegates from political, economic and academic circles have confirmed their attendance at the forum, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will also attend the conference.

The financial elite around the world will congregate at the conference, discussing regional and international financial cooperation and monetary policies in Asia. The heads of prominent multinational corporations will also conduct discussions about development and cooperation in Asia.

The forum is supposed to be an authoritative think-tank organization and the highest dialogue platform for exploring Asian issues, said BFA Secretary-General Long Yongtu.

In addition to the annual conferences, the BFA held seminars, forums and conferences in response to some common problems that emerged during the regional economic cooperation and integration in Asia.

In light of its fruitful achievement and authority on Asian issues, the BFA also deepened its cooperation with such international organizations as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and World Tourism Organization.

So far, many of the world's renowned research institutes and enterprises have become members of the forum, which adds to the forum's impact on Asian affairs.

The BFA is the first high-level forum organized by Asians aimed at enhancing exchange and co-operation among Asian countries as well as between Asia and the rest of the world

Asia is the fastest-growing region in the world, and the economic integration in Asia will, as a result, have a great impact on globalization, said Chi Fulin, executive president of the China (Hainan) Reform and Development Research Institute.
