China hopes parties concerned continue six-party talks
( 2003-10-21 22:21) (Xinhua)

China has a very clear stance on solving the Korean nuclear issue through peaceful means, and hopes the parties concerned make positive efforts for the continuation of the six-party talks, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue here Tuesday.

Zhang said Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President George. W. Bush discussed the Korean nuclear issue during their meeting Sunday in Bangkok, Thailand.

She said both of the two leaders stressed that the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue are an important step towards the peaceful solution of the Korean nuclear issue, and the parties concerned should carry on such important talks.

Zhang said that a very important point in the process of solving the Korean nuclear issue is to solve the security concern of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Parties concerned should hold discussions on the approach and means of solving the DPRK's security concern within the framework of six-party talks, and find out an acceptable way, she said.

The first round of talks was held in Beijing in August with the participation of Russia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
