NBA: Timberwolves roll past Bucks 91-86, OT
( 2003-10-21 14:28) (Agencies)

Latrell Sprewell scored 14 points in his first preseason game with Minnesota and Kevin Garnett added 24 as the Timberwolves defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 91-86 in overtime Monday night.

Sprewell, traded from New York to Minnesota in the offseason, missed the first five preseason games with a sore left Achilles' tendon.

Garnett shot 12-for-16 from the field and had 11 rebounds. Troy Hudson had 15 points and six assists for the Timberwolves (3-3). And, rookie Kirk Penney scored nine points in overtime.

Damon Jones led Milwaukee (3-3) with 15 points and Michael Redd added 13. Erick Strickland had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Minnesota led 69-58 going into the fourth quarter, before sitting its starters and allowing the Bucks to get back into it. Toni Kukoc, who scored 12 points after missing the last game with back spasms, hit a 3-pointer with 1:09 left to make it 79-78.

After three Minnesota free throws and a Milwaukee basket, the Bucks trailed 82-80, and had the ball with 5 seconds left. Jones drove to the basket and hit a runner to send it into overtime.

Early on, Sprewell showed the energy the Timberwolves were looking for when they traded for him. He made a reverse layup over Desmond Mason after a fast-break pass from Garnett in the first quarter.

In the second, Sprewell gave the team a scare when he fell awkwardly and laid face down for at least a minute. He stayed in the game, but was sent hard to the floor again with 30 seconds left on Daniel Santiago's flagrant foul.

In the end, Sprewell played 26 minutes, shot 4-for-14 from the field and 5-for-5 from the line.

Minnesota's Mark Madsen leaving the game in the first quarter with a slight concussion. Forward Wally Szczerbiak and center Michael Olowokandi have yet to play in the preseason due to injuries.
