( 2003-10-18 11:59) (Agencies)

Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Paradorn Srichaphan 6-4, 6-2 Friday to hold on to the No. 1 ranking and reach the semifinals at the Madrid Masters.

If Ferrero had lost, No. 2 Andy Roddick would have replaced him atop the ATP Tour rankings.

In Saturday's semifinals, French Open champion Ferrero will face Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, who came back to defeat Feliciano Lopez 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4.

The other semifinal will be Younes El Aynaoui against Nicolas Massu.

El Aynaoui outlasted Sebastien Grosjean 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2, while Massu topped Juan Ignacio Chela 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

Massu eliminated Roddick in the third round.
