( 2003-10-11 17:06) (Xinhua)

Shenzhen city, south China's Guangdong Province, exported 43.15 billion US dollars worth of commodities in the first three quarters of the year, up 29.17 percent from the corresponding period last year.

The city exported a record 6.3 billion US dollars worth of commodities in September alone, according to Shenzhen Customshouse figures.

The city's exports of high-technology products, such as computer and telecommunications products, saw the highest rise. From January to August, for instance, the city exported 14.17 billion US dollars worth of high-technology products, up 50.45 percent.

Exports of machinery and related electronic products, household items, stationery and garments also rose sharply.

Shenzhen is one of the country's five special economic zones. The other four are Xiamen, Zhuhai and Shantou cities and Hainan Province.
