China to launch donation campaign to help disaster-affected, poor areas
( 2003-09-28 10:04) (Xinhua)

China will launch a nationwide campaign to encourage people to donate winter clothing and quilts for families living in poverty-stricken areas and provinces that were devastated by severe natural calamities in the past months.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs issued a circular Saturday, saying that the campaign will be carried out next month.

The circular noted that this year, torrential floods occurred in the Huaihe River area and the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, while strong earthquakes struck parts of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Yunnan Province, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

All the quilts and clothing donated must be disinfected strictly by disease control departments, it says.
