Scriptwriter eager to meet director ( 2003-09-26 14:24) (China Daily)
"I must give Feng Xiaogang my screenplay, even if I starve here." Yang Changye, a worker from Shenyang, Liaoning Province, sits outside the entrance to the Beijing Film Studio, determined to make his dream come true. The 50-something man spent six months writing a script for a movie he calls "Flying Dragon, Dancing Phoenix". He said he must personally hand it over to Feng Xiaogang, a renowned director who makes films featuring ordinary people. Despite the disapproval of his wife and children, Yang travelled to Beijing where he has been waiting for the director for two weeks. To save money, he eats only one meal a day and sleeps in a nearby underground walkway at night. When Beijing Times called Feng, who was in Hong Kong for an international
film festival, to tell him of the man's vigil, the director said there were too
many enthusiastic people wanting to give him their scripts, but this one was
especially persistent. |
