A young man visited the offices of the Shanghai Morning Post saying he wanted to find a job paying at least 10,000 yuan (US$1,200) a month for his very special skill - eating glass - the paper reports.

As a sort of "audition", Wang opened a bottle of beer by biting it off at the neck in front of the reporters and then chewed up every last bit of glass.

He said he was looking for a job where his talent would be appreciated, and he wanted to apply for a Guinness World record as well.

After calling several employment agencies, however, the paper learned that eating glass was not so amazing after all.

In Nanjing alone, at least a dozen people are listed as being able to eat light bulbs and even swallow knives.
