Spring city regains scenery of spring gushes

( 2003-09-10 13:49)

JINAN: The famed springs of Jinan have begun to flow again, the culmination of a local government policy banning the pumping of ground water.

The four major and also the most famed springs in this spring-rich capital of east China's Shandong Province have all resumed flowing, as the last one, the Black Tiger Spring, started to gush early Tuesday morning.

Jinan, also called the Spring City, has 548 springs and was historically famous for its Four Springs in old city area, including the Baotu Spring, the Pearl Spring, the Black Tiger Spring and the Five Dragons Spring.

Before the Black Tiger Spring resumed its flow, signs indicated the resumption likely as minor springs around the Spring began to recover.

Jinan's major springs dried out in recent years because of excessive exploitation of groundwater.
