IT firm growth sees 153% net boost
( 2003-09-09 10:07) (China Daily HK Edition)

Beijing-focused software developer and system integrator Beijing Development (Hong Kong) posted a 153 per cent growth in net profit in the first half of this year, fuelled by its strong information technology (IT) unit.

Net profit of the company, the high-tech flagship of red-chip Beijing Enterprises Holdings, stood at HK$8.13 million (US$1.04 million).

Turnover rose by 25 per cent to HK$202.69 million (US$25.99 million) and earnings per share surged by 143 per cent to HK$0.0175.

IT business had become the largest revenue and profit source of Beijing Development, the company said.

Among the three IT firms it acquired in the first half, Wisdom Elite, which provides IT solutions for labour and social securities authorities, started contributing profit to it shortly after the acquisition in January.

Beijing Development also acquired a 51 per cent stake in Astoria Innovations, which develops re-employment and e-government software for government agencies.

It also acquired 38 per cent interest in Beijing Municipal Administration & Communications Card Co, which is engaged in operation of the contactless card payment system in Beijing.

Beijing Development recorded a loss in its restaurant business in the first half, partly as a result of the SARS outbreak and a flat performance in its property investment business.

Looking ahead, Beijing Development said it expected Wisdom Elite to continue to make significant profit contribution in the future.
