Yellow River embankment bursts in Inner Mongolia

Local cadres and villagers are building cofferdam around the embankment breach in Wulate Qianqi of Bayannur on Saturday morning, Sept 6, 2003. The embankment of the Yellow River suddenly broke around 8:30 p.m. Friday in Bayannur of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China. The accident caused no casualties by Saturday morning.   [Xinhua]


A villager salvages his beehives from the flood on Saturday, Sept 6, 2003 after a 30-meter-wide embankment of Yellow River was suddenly burst in Wulate Qianqi of Bayannur, Inner Mongolia  on Friday night, Sept 5, 2003. The flood caused no casualties till Saturday morning. Over 3,000 villagers were evacuated as thousands of rescuers are busy building and strengthening the dam, and helping to transfer flood victims to safe places. [Xinhua]
